INS Khanjar Docked In Kolkata

The Khukri-class guided missile corvette, INS Khanjar, is currently berthed at Khidderpore port in Kolkata and is open for public visits on Friday and Saturday. This warship from the Indian Navy’s eastern fleet will depart from the port on November 20. The opportunity to explore the ship is extended not only to the general public but also to NCC cadets and students. Visitors will receive detailed briefings on the ship’s various components and functions during their tour.

With a displacement of 1,350 tonnes and a length of 91 meters, INS Khanjar is capable of speeds exceeding 25 knots. Rituraj Sahoo, Naval Officer Incharge (West Bengal), expressed a warm welcome to INS Khanjar, highlighting its significance in the Navy’s Eastern Command. The warship has been on a mission along the coast of West Bengal, participating in a pan-India coastal exercise and currently celebrating the Azadi Ka Mahotsav (75 years of Independence) in Kolkata. INS Khanjar will also play a role in the Navy Day celebrations on December 4. Invitations have been extended to students, NCC cadets, armed forces personnel, and their families to visit the ship.

Commanding Officer NVSP Kumar of INS Khanjar emphasized the warship’s capabilities in both offensive and defensive operations since its commissioning in 1991. Celebrating its 31 years of service, INS Khanjar recently participated in C-Vigil, showcasing its operational readiness. The ship is equipped with a range of armaments, radars, sensors, and is designed to accommodate a helicopter. Rituraj Sahoo expressed confidence that the visit to INS Khanjar would inspire many to consider a career in the Navy.
