In what appears to be a veiled reference to BJP national vice-president Dilip Ghosh, whose house deed was reportedly found at the residence of Prasanna Roy, an accused in the alleged SSC scam, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday accused central agencies of displaying swift action against Opposition leaders but hesitating when a BJP leader is implicated in corruption cases.
While acknowledging the arrest of Partha Chatterjee after documents in his name were discovered at Arpita Mukherjee’s residence, Banerjee questioned the lack of similar action against the BJP leader whose flat deed was seized from an accused’s residence. Mamata Banerjee expressed concern about the apparent disparity in the response of central agencies based on political affiliations during her two-day visit to Jhargram.
Drawing attention to the vast electoral expenditure of the BJP, Banerjee raised questions about the sources of their funds and called for investigations by the CBI and the ED into the party’s financial origins.
This critique from Mamata Banerjee followed her nephew and TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee’s demand for Dilip Ghosh’s arrest. Abhishek Banerjee questioned the discrepancy in treating the case of Partha Chatterjee and Dilip Ghosh, both of whom had documents found in connection to the alleged scams.
In response to the accusations, Dilip Ghosh asserted his innocence, explaining that he and Prasanna Roy lived in the same housing society. He clarified that he had provided a copy of the flat deed to Roy for a legitimate purpose. Ghosh emphasized his willingness to cooperate with any probe by central or state agencies, stating that the TMC was attempting to manufacture an issue. The former state BJP president maintained that he had committed no wrongdoing and expressed readiness for a thorough investigation.
